VAMPIRE

When Egyptologists open the lost tomb of a long dead king, they are astounded to find another body entombed alongside him. But this is no ordinary mummy. Not only is it dressed in the manner of a commoner, it also contains a few blood cells that only seem dormant. Becky Ryan, a museum researcher, receives a macabre message from her father, just before he is found dead and follows the clues to uncover what is either a massive hoax, or the greatest ever discovery in the history of mankind. Like other books by Kevin Ashman, Vampire is set in two different time lines – part of the story takes place in ancient Egypt, while the other part is in modern times. This is a technique that works really well, and it helps to keep the interest going throughout the book.

Being somewhat of a fan of Egyptology, I found the historical details convincing and well written.

The overall premise of the story is unusual and creative, and the ending, which is really good, was unexpected – and begs for a sequel, please!

As to those who have commented on bad electronic copies, then I have to say that I found no such problems.

    Again, highly recommended!

Vampire’s for adults, but don’t let the title fool you, this book is full of great historical fiction. Having read Mr. Ashman’s Roman series, I was very surprised at how well he could change hats and write a book that had a modern theme with great flashback elements. Having read his India Sommers series afterwards, I’ve come to appreciate Mr. Ashman’s modern day historical fiction just as much as his ancient roman books. This book is hard to put down.
