Wow. This was terrible, and I’m sad about that, because Erica Stevens’s other series is so good.

There were quite a few things that drove me crazy about this. To vs. too was one of them and possessives being used instead of plurals was another. I don’t understand why this is so hard.

Another thing that drove me crazy is that this story was needlessly drawn out as the characters continually went over and over the same feelings in every chapter. Sometimes the same things were stated in slightly different ways in adjoining paragraphs. Very annoying. 255 pages really could have been 100 pages.

For a group of vampire Hunters (not Hunter’s, Erica), there was surprisingly little action. I would’ve loved to have seen Cassie’s grandmother fend off an attack, or seen Chris’s mom embarrass him somehow. This is a show versus tell problem. The author tells us, but neglects to show us. The book would be stronger if there were more actions instead of feelings.

I won’t be continuing this series. I really don’t care if Devon changes Cassie into a vampire, I don’t care if they kill Julian, and I especially don’t care whether Marcy lives or dies. Nice try, but not good enough for publishing. Good thing it was free. It definitely isn’t good enough to pay for.

So after reading the two books from Erica Steven’s Captured series I moved right along to her Kindred series. These books (Kindred) are written more for young adult, but they are still as enjoyable as her other books, just a tad more pg. I like her writing style- smooth and descriptive. This one is almost too much description (her only book that I found this) and not enough action. I found myself thinking- okay, I get it, please move on with the story. This might have been one of the first books she’s written, because it’s the only one that I had this issue. As with her other books, the world is believable, well described and interesting. In no way is this book going to change your life, but it is going to take you for an enjoyable ride. It has a lot of my two favorite things- action and romance. After reading the first one, I promptly bought the second, then the third, and then the fourth. That might tell you something.

Just a heads up- the author likes to end her books with cliffhangers, so if this bothers you- beware!

I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. The potential was certainly there. I just got so tired of reading their thoughts about each other …their connection… how it healed their brokenness….they’ve never felt that way for anyone before…. the need for one another. Look, I am a sap for a good love story but this was TOO much. I mean every time they saw one another I had to read it all over again …and twice because it switched back and forth from his and her point of view. UGH! Seriously, half the book wasted with this repetitive thinking. I think those pages could have been spent with flirting, getting to know each other, or just some witty banter. Anything that would have built up this little romance. I liked the story a lot but I got tired of skipping every other page. Not sure if I’ll read the next book. If it were only $.99 I would probably buy it because, again, I really did like the story but for $2.99 I am hesitant because I know I’ll be skipping half the book to get to the good stuff.
