Convenient and haven’t had any trouble!, December 10, 2010

I have had my Zoo Med Mini Combo Deep Dome Lamp Fixture for almost a month now and haven’t had any trouble!
    Compliments:
1- The bulbs aren’t getting shorted out
2- It keeps my snake warm
3- It’s really convenient having two separate light options (night and day bulbs), under the same fixture!
4- It’s also really nice just having an on/off switch for each light. My old lamp had like what a desk lamp has, a thing you turn until the light comes on and it was starting to fail. I had to turn it over a dozen times to turn it on! So this, with a simple on/off switch, like a wall mounted light switch, is a BIG improvement!

What slightly surprised me when I got it was that each light (night and day) has it’s own wall plug. I kind of thought it might, but I also kind of thought it might just have a split cord with two different switches. Only bad part with this is you need a whole outlet (both top and bottom part of your wall outlet). But this is really nice because I may end up buying two plug-in wall timers and be able to set her day and night time light settings when I go out of town!

    Only complaints:
1- doesn’t come with your first set of night/day bulbs
2- If you don’t buy the stand (which I didn’t), the weight of the cord surprisingly can pull the whole fixture over on it’s side. So I just put hooks on the wall above fixture and draped the cords over it, which made reaching the on/off switches easier anyway..

Works Perfect and Looks Good!, October 16, 2010

I purchased this fixture to replace two Zoo Med Deluxe Porcelain Clamp Lamp with 5.5-Inch Dome, Black that were cumbersome and looked bad. I use the new fixture along with a Zoo Med Reptile Lamp Stand, Full Size and use a Zoo Med ReptiCare Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitter 60 Watts and a Exo Terra Repti-Glo 5.0 Tropical Terrarium Lamp Compact Fluorescent 26W – Exo Terra PT2187 to heat and light a Reptology Turtle Topper Basking Platform. The combination of the light fixture and the stand work fantastic! When I go to clean the aquarium I just adjust the stand (up) to remove the topper and I have plenty of light to do my cleaning. No more messing with those awkward “clamp lamps”.

Extremely Powerful Lamp, June 30, 2012
    By

This review is from: WakaWaka Solar Lamp (Lawn & Patio)

I received one of the first units off the production line and I love this light. Out of the box the light was ready to go to work after having been in the box for who knows how long. I have had many camping lamps, kerosene, battery and other solar lamps but this one is really compact and powerful. The design makes it easy to bring these lamps on camping trips because they are so compact and lightweight. The kids love it because they can use it as a powerful flashlight when they are out walking in the dark or hang it in their tent or on the table to read or do their chores. The first week we did a test of the claim that the light will last 8 hours on a single days charge. We placed the lamp in the window at 6:00am and began use at 8:00pm. We left the light on the reading lamp level. At 6:00am I awoke to find the lamp still shining bright. I have had lamps with batteries die after a couple of hours and other solar lamps last maybe four hours. This light has successfully survived two canoe trips and a backpack hike into Yosemite and lit the way every night, without fail, delivering great light!

The most attractive feature of the WakaWaka light is the fact that for everyone that makes a purchase, the WakaWaka foundation subsidizes a light for one of the 1.5 BILLION people around the world that live in the dark! While my family and I are enjoying a camping vacation, I know we played a significant role in improving the lives of a family somewhere around the world. I am told they are going to start publishing the effect the American and Canadian consumer has on lighting the world as a result of purchasing these WakaWaka’s. I hope they sell a million this year.

Great light and a greater cause.

Much Cheaper if you purchase it directly from the WakaWaka website, January 14, 2013

First, I must say I had great doubt about this product since most of the reviews here are from people who received it for product review vs those who actually purchase it to use on a daily basis. Also, if you purchase it directly from the www. wakawaka 4light. com, it is only $60 for 2 grey ones with free shipping within the US.

I have quite a few solar gadgets all around my house. This is the best solar light currently in the market mainly due to its brightness and duration. I used to like the d.light S10 and S1 until the WakaWaka came out last year. The WakaWaka has 2 LED’s instead of one like the S1 and S10. I have 4 WakaWaka lights on every night in those 3 rooms that I spend mostly in at light and I hardly even have to turn on any light. If you shine it on a white wall, the whole room just lights up. It is great bright ambient light.

According to their website, the internal battery should last about 3 years for daily use. Hope this helps.

Shine Bright Light, June 30, 2012
    By

This review is from: WakaWaka Solar Lamp (Lawn & Patio)

I consider myself a creative person with an eye for fashion and design. When I first saw the WakaWaka light I was very excited by the design and hoped that the light would be powerful enough to light a tent, dinner table and use for ambient lighting. I recently received one of the lights and they have exceeded my expectations. The unit is lightweight but solid in construction. The first thing I did was take the light out of the box, go into the darkened garage and see how bright this light really was. WOW, was my first reaction. When you click the button once, it gives you the 200% level lighting which is a very bright white light. It lit up the entire garage.

On the second click we had the reading light setting. I set the Waka up on a wine bottle (works great) and it produces great reading light perfect for preparing meals when camping or as an enhanced light on my husband’s workbench where there are dark area. Everyone I have shared this light with loves the light and the compact design. I will be taking on a camping trip next week and will be using constantly. I will let you know how it performs in the wild.

Lastly, I love that one light purchase helps a family around the world get a reduced cost WakaWaka light. I know Americans will step up, as we always have, and become the world leader in helping families with children get out of the darkness around the world. On their site ([...]) they mention the world bank information related to the effect of solar lamps on education…In Abu Hasheem in South Sudan the World Bank researched the impact of solar LED lighting on the pass rate for students. With kerosene lamps this was a mere 57%. Two years after introduction of the solar lamps the pass rate reached 100%. The average school grade rose from `unsatisfactory’ with 35% to `above average’.

I am so glad to get a product that has over delivered on the promise.
