7 out of the 8 lights work great,
Here’s the good, the bad, and the ugly on this product:
The good: 7 out of 8 of these appear better construction than most solar lights. Stainless steel and glass for an elegant look. The long life 1000mAh NiMh batteries are leaps and bounds better than the cheap NiCads that seem to come with every other set. Unlike other solar lights that I have bought, these lights ARE ALWAYS STILL ON AND BRIGHT in the morning as the sun is rising. They shut off because the sun comes out, not because the batteries run out. Also great, the ground stake appears to be aluminum or some other metal- not the cheap plastic that other lights have that seem to always break.
The bad: As the title suggests, the worst thing is that out of the box, only 7 out of 8 lights work. I tried swapping batteries with the 8th one, etc, and it doesn’t work. If I bang on it repeatedly it flickers. Goose egg on that light. The light output on this unit is about average for a solar light of this type. It is not bright enough to light a walkway or accentuate a feature. It’s only real value is as an “accent” or where marking walkways is sufficient when the lights themselves don’t illuminate the path.
The ugly: Nothing ugly about the classic look of stainless steel and glass. If the stainless steel starts to rust or any of the remaining 7 lights die, I’ll update this review.
If all the lights worked, I would have given this review 4 stars. If all the lights worked and the units put out more light, I would have given it 5 stars. As received, it gets 3 stars.
UPDATE 10/18/2012: I upgraded this review one star because the 8th light mysteriously started working well. I waited two weeks before updating the review to ensure it wasn’t a fluke. Now 8/8 of the lights are working great. I have no idea why the light didn’t work upon receipt. Maybe moisture got in there and helps complete a circuit?

|Best Path Light…& I’ve tried them all,
I have over 100 solar lights on my 20 acre property…these are the best. What I’ve found with solar lights is to stay away from any that have plastic lenses. The plastic will generally yellow & become brittle after 2-3 years from sun exposure which really dims the light output. Spend a little more for glass lenses. Also check the battery storage capacity. These solar lights have batteries rated at 1000 mah while the majority of other solar lights use 200-400 mah batteries. The 1000 mah battery allows the light fixture to burn longer & brighter.
Something else I discovered with solar lights is that when they stop working, it’s not because the battery is dead but because the the light will not shut off automatically when light outside. The battery will continue to drain & never fully recharge. At this point the fixture is toast but you can still remove the battery & reuse it in another fixture if needed.
I purchased 2 sets of these lights & over time will continue replacing my remaining plastic lens fixtures when these lights or lights similiar to these. The glass lense is much larger than than I expected for the cost & also the stainless steel construction seems sturdier that other lights that I’ve been replacing.
I did downgrade one star because the price of this set keeps flucuating & also no longer qualifies for free shipping for some strange reason.
Update: After a couple weeks in use these are the only lights that work after 100% cloudy days. Also, on bright sunny days these lights are still on early next morning while every other solar light is dead. & since it is dark now by 5pm that means these lights are on over 11-12 hours straight. Impressive.
Update: The price has increased from $36 to $90…the lights are nice but now way, way overpriced.

The product arrived fast and in good packaging, Lamp Lust is quick! The lights last all night as long as they are fully charged. After a few cloudy days they all do not come on but that’s to be expected with solar lights. Good product, metal and not the cheap plastic ones that I have had and broke in the past. Provides a nice glow without being too bright, good accent lighting for my walkway in the front yard.
