Pool Blaster with Intex Pool, June 17, 2012

Today I used my new Pool Blaster for the first time on my 16′ Intex Salt Water pool. Dirt had blown into the pool…too much to use the pool vacuum and system filter. I ordered the Blaster plus additional micro-filter bags. When I received the Blaster, it had two micro-filter bags with it that were not advertised in the purchase description. I didn’t need the additional bags since some were included, but I’ll hang on to them anyway. It’s like the included bags were an afterthought.

In any case, I charged the thing and used it the next morning. I ran it for over an hour and the motor never slowed. I filled two micro-filter bags to finish the job. This thing worked great for me. I was very careful not to get any water in the motor compartment as I have seen these units with totally rusted motors. Follow the directions and you should be good. The last motor I found rusted was in a unit that had water in it and was stored with the plug/switch still installed. The water was trapped in the unit all off season, making the motor a solid block of rust once the unit was opened and charged in spring.

Points to remember for this review that I had a hard time finding data on:
    1. You need to have micro-filter bags to vacuum up sand and dirt effectively with this unit. The regular filter will allow dirt and sand to pass right through.
    2. If you have an Intex pool, the pole that came with the pool will not fit this vacuum. You need a standard size pole.
    3. Unit is designed to run for an hour, but mine ran much longer. Battery time is predicted to improve with more charging cycles.
    4. Store it properly or you will rust the motor…especially in a salt water pool application.

UPDATE (12JUL12): Today I used one of the micro-filter bags (Pool Blaster PBW022MF Micro Filter Bag) that I ordered when I purchased the Pool Blaster. These filters are SIGNIFICANTLY better than the two filters that came with the Pool Blaster. They are a much finer material and trap much more debris. Still love this pool vacuum. Today I uploaded a short video review.

We have purchased two of the water tech pool blaster max products and are very satisfied. It cleans our small pool(11′x14′x4′) in about 15 minutes. It cleans our larger pool(36′xx16′x6′) in 30-45 minutes depending on the amount of debris. Two comments that may be helpful.Always thoroughly drain the unit after using. Especially the battery compartment. Leaving the power switch off and the pool blaster on it’s side during non-use has helped us to keep the battery dry and efficient when recharging. Also. the fine filter sleeve really works when it comes to picking up fine debris such as sand or dirt. This product is very compact, efficient and portable. No more priming lines and using our pool pump to clean which took at least an hour from start to finish.

I purchased this, took good care care of it, followed all the instructions. Agree it was great while it lasted, but it didn’t last. I only got one season out of it, and had the same experience when I complained to Water Tech. Now I know, after reading other peoples experiences, exactly why Water Tech immediately launched into what sounded like a rehearsed speech about my “options” to get the unit repaired, all at great cost to me, all at least half what I paid for the unit. My local pool supply store stopped selling these last year because they were weary of angry customers trying to return it to the store.
