A delightful visual complement to the appealing and simple text, April 14, 2007

Two-time winner of the Texas Institute of Letters Award Myra Cohn Livingston presents Calendar, an easy reader picturebook that introduces young people to the months of the year. Colorful papercut-style illustrations provide a delightful visual complement to the appealing and simple text. Recommended for novice readers just beginning to sound out their first words. “January shivers, / February shines, / March blows off the winter ice, /April makes the mornings nice”.

Nice Illustrations but uninspired text, January 21, 2013

The only good things about this book are some of the illustrations. The text leaves much to be desired. I cannot stand that the author decided to say “August is my birthday” and that’s it for that month. That is so confusing for a 4-year-old child who is trying to learn the months and seasons. I actually got rid of the book, because every time I read it to her, I had to explain that August was not HER birthday. The author really should have said something meaningful for August instead. I would not recommend this for anyone hoping to help a child learn the months or seasons.

Gorgeous artwork accompanies this sparse, gentle poem about the passing of the seasons and months. A very classy presentation, and a rich visual feast. (ReadThatAgain)
