Home Improvement: A show to remember!,
“Home Improvement” was definitely one of the best TV sitcoms of the ’90s. Even though it’s been a couple years now since the series finale actually first aired on TV, I still miss it a lot! I’m glad Fox is still showing reruns and hope they release a trilogy of all the show’s epsidoes out on video and DVD. Today, they just showed another rerun of the series finale and it definitely made me remember how good “Home Improvement” had been. So I decided to write a review on this video. This video is the actual series finale when it first aired – both parts – and it’s very good. I love the whole cast – Tim Allen, Patricia Richardson, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Zachary Ty Bryan, Taran Noah Smith, etc. I think they are all talented actors and I hope to see more of JTT, Zach, and Taran in the future, Patricia, as well. “Home Improvement” is definitely a classic TV sitcom that is well-beloved by the world. This video (or the episode, I should say) show snipets of “Home Improvment’s” past episodes – from the funniest to the saddest. They show snipets when the Taylor boys were younger in the beginning episodes and when they were older in the more recent episodes. And at the end, it shows the cast in their series finale ceremony – if only JTT had shown up for that! That’s the only real complaint I have. JTT, one of my favorite actors, should have shown up to support the rest of his cast and TV show, even if he were busy. The announcer didn’t even mention his name when he was calling off the names of the cast! Oh well. They also should have added more to this video with interviews with the cast and behind-the-sceens look. But this is still a pretty cool video and I definitely recommend it for all “Home Improvment” fans!

Home Improvement The Series Finale,
Ohhh my.. that Video is so grrreat I love it. I would give 10 Stars if i can. Its a typical Home Improvement “Film” with so many gags and surprises. If you’re a fan you must buy it. If you live in Germany or another Europe State, no Problem, when your Videorecorder can play NTSC-Videos!

Why We Love Mike Holmes,
When I saw the star rating for this book, I doubted that it would be deserved. Even the Taunton Books have some weak areas, so I have become skeptical. However, this book is nearly flawless, at least as far as what I bought it for. The fact that tables of information are included is very important for me. He doesn’t just talk about different types of insulation in the text, he charts out the different types.
The unique value of this book however, is the wisdom he shares after encountering so many different situations and finding solutions to them. It is unbelievably difficult to find some solutions to renovation problems. Most books simply talk about simple, standard situations, not the difficult ones. His discussion of basement refinishing for a living space is absolutely priceless. I wonder whether this advice is anywhere else in print.
The truly amazing thing, however, is that a book as valuable as this, printed on sturdy glossy paper stock and thoroughly illustrated, is 14 bucks.

Not enough pictures and diagrams….Not good resource for warmer climate building,
If you consider buying this book and live in warmer climates, please note that there is a lot of information that will not be of interest. Mike builds in Toronto, Canada. Houses are built differently up there to protect them from water and ice intrusion as well as heat and cold fluctuation. The majority of the problems that are encountered in colder climates are not necessarily an issue in areas with more moderate climates, so your going to be sifting through a lot of information to get to the stuff you need that’s pertinent to you (and he doesn’t do a good job of distinguishing the two). I’m a contractor and I found myself researching a lot of the stuff mentioned in the book online to get a better understanding of what he is talking about. That being said I did learn a lot after reading this book and am more educated as a builder even if its not pertinent to what I do on a daily basis.
The one other thing that they could improve on this book is to have more diagrams and pictures. There is ALOT of information condensed into 200 pages. This book would be better suited if it was 400-500 pages and some of the concepts explained a little more thoroughly. The best way to read this book is to read and surf the internet to better understand some of the information.

What else would you expect?,
If you’ve ever seen his shows, you know the character of Mike Holmes only allows himself to do things one way; The right way! Oh what a world this would be if everyone was half as honorable as this man. That being said, his book is every bit as informative and entertaining as his shows are. I cannot speak as to the helpfulness of the information to the professional as I am not myself a licensed general contractor, but I have a hard time believing anybody but won’t end up giving this book 5 stars once they read it. If I must pick something out to jeer about, it would have to be the fact that it is of course written with Canadian codes in mind, since Mr. Holmes is of course, Canadian. But those instances are far too infrequent to tarnish this title.
