    Works but…., May 13, 2008

So far I find that this is keeping raccoons away.. Two nights I didn’t have it out and they dug around my yard looking for grubs. If it is out that doesn’t happen and they haven’t stolen any more tomatoes. So, it works and seems to work well.

My complaint and the ONLY reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 5 is that the on and off switch and all adjustments and batteries are inside the back cover which is a soft type plastic that fits over the housing. In order to mount this on a wall one has to mount with the holes in the back cover. PROBLEM is the back cover does not go back on the unit tightly. It is really difficult to get it on even half way and not enough to hang it off a wall. So if I want to turn the unit off and on (which I would like to do to save batteries during the day) I would have to fight that back cover.

I was ready to return both units I bought but due to the fact that it works so well I have managed to sit it on a box and get the cover on the top good so no moisture gets in…

After much effort and expense to rid my yard of my neighbor’s (5!) cats, one persisted in spraying my doorstep as often as I would wash it away. I installed the YardGuard at a moderate setting, and it reduced the tagging to about once a week. A few weeks later, I reset it to the maximum sensitivity, and it seems to have done the trick. I can now hear it myself, if I stand within a couple feet of it, but that is rare. Now, have you got a machine to make my neighbor go away?

This review is from: Bird-X YG Yard Gard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller (Lawn & Patio)

I have read most of the reviews and was looking for the LATEST Comments, until I clicked on the small blue strip
[right side] for Most Helpful First, NEWEST FIRST. [ Thought this would help you too! ]

My problem was picking up Cat Poop in my backyard every morning, so that HOA Landscape Gardners would not step into it, amongst other obvious reasons. This was not too bad when it was solid, but terrible when it was not. This had been going on for a while until I had enough and started looking for remedies. I considered an outomatic watering system but felt it would spray the Gardeners and myself too. I tried spraying expensive Pest Control Pellets on my lawn, until I read about the Yard Gard.

So I ordered it 6 weeks ago, plugged it in to AC power, and tried the motion censor first. But when I noticed a stray Cat pooping on my lawn, I realized that the Ultrasound would go OFF as soon as the Cat would stand still.
So I changed it to Constant ON position, and tried different frequencies. Now Cats are pretty smart! First I noticed
that a Cat would simply linger behind some plant containers, since Ultrasound does Not Penetrate Anything! So I moved some containers out of the way. Then I noticed that a Cat would simply turn its back on it, with its ears in
the opposite directions. Now I almost gave up, but then a funny thing happened: No More Poop on my lawn!

So I think it takes time for you to experiment, and for the animal to get frustrated. Do not give up so fast, and do
Not expect a Quick Fix. Your patience will ultimately pay off. I would definately recommend this product to anyone.
PS: When an animal first notices the anouing sound, it gets confused and does not realize that all it has to do is leave the area and that will stop the sound. It will take the animal some enter and leave the area to get the idea.
Also: When I first got the Unit, I tried to see how effective the range is. So I adjusted it to Motion setting in the Evening [because the red light gets very bright in the dark and can easily seen from a distance] and walked away
from it until it went on or off. This is a good way to check on its range. Thought you might like to try this too!
