SO we originally purchased a Sony monitoring system. It was terrible. It picked up so much interference all it did was crackle and pop. I decided it was time to try something else. I decided to try the VTech because I have a cordless phone by them that works great and I figured they may know the business better. Boy was I right! This monitor has a screen on the parent unit that lets you change the sensitivity, turn on and off the nightlight, and talk back to the baby unit. Night #1, no interference at all. no cracking or popping and no white noise, only turns on if the baby actually makes a noise. It doesn’t pick up the fan in the room but it did pick up the door opening when my wife went in to check to see if the unit was working. I highly recommend this monitor!!

My main decision to buy this monitor was my great experiences with Vtech phones & reviews. I read many reviews where most people were very happy with this monitor. They may be unaware what they’re missing. I have a wired night/day video cam where this monitor is used. The 2nd night of use I could see my child sitting up in bed crying. The monitor is only inches away & was not picking it up. It said it was linked. Sensitivity & volume options were up all the way. I walked up to the room & could hear her calling for mommy & daddy. Her room is about 20 ft away. There’s an air conditioner on in our room so we couldnt hear the cries up the hall. I feel this is unacceptable & gives false sense that your child is sound asleep & safe. The volume is low for a high setting even when talking directly into it. This monitor was bought to replace an older Summer brand baby monitor. The previous monitor had more white noise, but picked up child moving around & crying even at 1/2 max volume.
If you decide to purchase, test the monitor where it will be used so you know what to expect for volume levels & what sounds it does pick up.
The Vtech has many great functions including talkback feature not common in most monitors. All of this I feel cant compensate for not hearing your child.

    Very Disappointed, October 19, 2012

I have an old vtech monitor that was recalled because it did not have that sticker on the cord saying “caution, strangulation” any way I LOVE that monitor so when baby #2 came along I looked high and low for the same one…to no avail I could not find one. So I decided to try this one with the walkie talkie feature so I could talk to my 2 year old. I was so excited, it said it has a 1,000 ft range. I set it up and had fun talking to my little guy in the basement. Night one comes around and the monitor becomes “not linked” at 12am and 2 am. I thought it was just a fluke. Our house is not huge, around 1,000 sqft with 2 bedrooms on the main level and 2 in the basement. I tried it for 2 months and was sick of it waking me up. We turned the babies monitor off, bought a second one thinking the first one had a crazy thing wrong with it, turned the computer off etc…. I really wanted this thing to work but it didn’t. It would also “not link” during the day at random times. even if it was in our kitchen, above the bedroom the base is in. I have the other monitor back in my sons room and the new one in my daughters room. This makes me sad due to fact that it is a great idea, but will only work if you are in 20 steps of the room with no walls between you. The only reason it got a 2 is because I still love my first monitor!!!
