I did, I really tried. It is almost unheard-of for me not to finish any book I start, and I tend to be charitable about people’s writing – after all, not everyone can be James Lee Burke or Lee Child. I will read just about anything, if there is something to keep my interest, however marginally. I’m one of those people who needs to know how it all comes out, and I hate to miss anything! This book was so off-putting, though, that I didn’t make it even one-fourth of the way through before giving up. I was so distracted by the grammatical errors, poor sentence structure, and misplaced or missing punctuation that I could not concentrate on the story – I was too busy mentally correcting the errors and trying to make sense of what I was reading.

Even beyond these errors, I found the writing style very stiff and stilted, and the conversations sounded awkward and unrealistic. There was a lot of gratuitous information – a lengthy, unhelpful description of the layout of a shopping mall, for example, that neither gave me a good mental picture of it nor added anything to the story line. Did I really need to know that Martin’s shop was at the opposite end of the mall from Benjamin’s shop? Why was that so important? I’ll never know. This was a free Kindle book, and as I said, I’m really glad I didn’t pay for it. Nevertheless, I wish the author well and hope he finds a better editor!
