Good one!,
I have all four editions of this publication. They produce really well-written books. Essential knowledge in a compact manner! Excellent!

Not on par with their Economics text,
I bought this after being impressed with DK’s “The Economics Book” which is a rather fair and diligently researched book.
Snooping through this one, I’m startled to see Cicero and the Roman Republic relegated to a half a page without any mention of Cato’s politics whatsoever. Considering the latter book focuses predominantly on Western political thought (another annoyance), it would seem odd to essentially ignore the Roman Republican contributions to governance and political thought.
Additionally in what is an otherwise rather professionally written book, discussing each item in turn objectively, their discussion on the 2nd Amendment “Right to Bear Arms” turns into a subjective, dismissive play to the reader’s emotions.
No joke it reads like an op-ed, divested from the rest of the text. They state US founding fathers never had any intention of allowing individuals to bear arms and that we Americans, our constitutional scholars and our Supreme Court don’t understand our founders and should no longer have gun rights. (The authors are Brits mind you.) I wouldn’t mind a fair back and forth on the issue but their opinions, not shared in much of US law and academia, are written as if they are fact.
This bit is so sloppily done (including an Aurora Colorado reference as the only factual basis for their claims) that it leads me to believe these few pages were hastily written after the rest of the book was completed. Some author’s agenda misrepresented as historical fact; quite sad given the apparent quality of the rest of the book.
