I was as enthusiastic as anyone when I got my Standers securuty pole. I no longer needed assistance when I got up from my chair, nor did I fear falling, as I had done many times before. I used to hold it lightly for balance when trying my Wii Fit routines. I purchased the pole from Amazon on May 24 2009. A week or so ago, I grabbed it to get up & instesd of the curved piece staying in place,it moved roumd as climbed leaving me in quite a pickle. It continues to swing free. It no longer stops at evety 45 degrees. The whole central part of the pole swings. So it is only useful if I can reach above this area. I have not been able to find a customer service website for Stander. I am past the time when I can return it to Amazon. Do I expect to buy another when it lasted less than 9 months? Hardly! But I hope somewhere someone has a similar product wuth a long warranty. This would have been a rave 5 star review if the product had been longer lived.

Are Your Ceilings Perfectly Level?, September 25, 2010

This review is from: Standers Security Pole and Curve Grab Bar, Iceberg White (Health and Beauty)

The Standers Security pole is well made and sturdy. It has only a few simple parts to put together. It even looks attractive, which is pretty amazing considering it’s size. Despite all that, I had to return mine. If your ceilings are not perfectly level, then the top pole will be at a slight angle when the “H” shaped ceiling base is tightened up against the ceiling. There is no adjustment for pitch or angle. The bottom base also has no adjustment for angle/pitch. So the top pole which is at an angle must be joined to the bottom pole which is vertical. The two poles are attached together with a locking thread ring, there is no adjustment for differing angles. You can feel the threads slightly binding as angled threads meet vertical grooves. The Security Pole will bow in the middle to compensate and the top brace will no longer be completely flat against the ceiling.

My elderly Uncle was a machinist who still appreciates well designed equipment. The first time he saw the Security pole, he looked up suspiciously at the ceiling and poked me with his cane when he saw that the top brace wasn’t flat against the ceiling. The bowing in the pole earned me another poke from the cane. But he instantly understood the mechanical reasons for the Security Pole’s shortcomings, I know he enjoyed explaining them to me.

Mom LOVES this!, July 18, 2008

A transfer pole was recommended by the workers at an assited living facility for my mother who has trouble getting up from sitting down and with walking. They discribed a single pole — floor to ceiling. I got this one and mom loves her ability to “climb” the pole using the grab bars…. thanks so much for this wonderful product….. well worth the price!
