Economies of Recycling: Global Transformations of Materials, Values and Social Relations

For some, recycling is a big business; for others a moralized way of engaging with the world. But, for many, this is a dangerous way of earning a living. With scrap now being the largest export category from the US to China, the sheer scale of this global trade has not yet been clearly identified or analyzed. Combining fine-grained ethnographic analysis with overviews of international material flows, Recycling Economies radically changes the way we understand global and local economies as well

Great Product, but Shipping Label Annoyingly Applied, April 28, 2011

I love having the sturdy recycling container. But I was very annoyed that the invoice/label was applied directly over the recycling triangle, with “the adhesive from Hell”; I’m afraid to scrape it off, for fear of also removing the paint. Wish a lid were included.

Well made, sturdy, just the right size (32 Gallons) for weekly recycling. Worth the $38.00. Clearly labeled with the recycling symbol. Fast shipping.

This is obviously my recyclable trash can. It has held up through winter and summer storms. I did have to drill holes in the bottom to make sure the liquids drained out though. Pro tip!

Honestly, this was a gift for my son. I am sorry to say that I haven’t read it. Interesting concept, however!
