These pens are just awesome. Great selection of tips and I love the ink. They feel great while you hold them, but they are a bit small if you don’t put the cap on the top while you use them. There are other brands of pens that might be cheaper for inking, but I have used many Faber-Castell products and the quality is just top notch and I really appreciate that. Definitely recommend this for Inking your drawings.

The pens work great, smooth, even flow of ink, no spotty coverage. However I am slightly disappointed in the strength of the ink itself. While it is indeed black, it covers the paper more like watercolor paint. If I want a solid black area without streaks, I have to go over it more than once. The ink coats more like a wash rather than pen ink. To really achieve a uniform coverage, I end up scanning my pictures into my computer and retouching them with a photo program to darken the black areas.
I have used the pens on two different brands and grades of paper – Strathmore Sketch 50lb, and Bonjour Studios Acid Free 70lb. No bleeding on either type. However with the rougher 70lb paper, the 0.1mm pen does seem to “scratch” over the surface, but not very noticeable and still produces that incredibly fine line.
Overall, the pens suit the projects I use them for; they are great quality. I would have given a full 5-star rating if it weren’t for the washed-out look of the ink.

This pen pack is the perfect one for amateurs and professionals alike. While professionals will have their preferences (and they are usually expensive) these pens can be thrown in a bag or purse and taken alone with a sketch pad without issue. Their quality is more than you could ask for a dollar and change per pen. So I’d suggest that anyone who is looking for a starter set or a travel set pick these up. Even if you’re buying this as a present to yourself of a loved one, these pens will help an amateur figure out which pens work best with his/her style, so that you don’t waste money on more expensive drawing implements.
