Maps With Me is a fantastic app for using a digital map without requiring an internet connection. I used it recently on a business trip to supplement my driving directions. While I only have access to the free version (using on a Kindle Fire) the application still works great – I treat it as a replacement for my paper maps (having the ability to zoom in to a specific location and being able to read the street names easily is much preferred to folding out a big paper map taking up too much space). The app is missing exit numbers (for interstates and highways) but I’m confident that the creators will be adding this feature within a couple months. Also searching for addresses and possibly offline directions may be on the way as well.

I give this app 5 stars for ease of use and the great detailed maps – Maps with me is not a GPS step-by-step directional system (at least not yet for Kindle Fire users) but simply a paper replacement – I recommend this for people for don’t like to rely on always having an internet connection or always being connected to a satellite. Great app and I know it will get even better with time as it becomes more popular.

The free version seems to be no more than an electronic version of paper maps. It’s also a huge resource hog. The first and starting download was 40 megabytes. That gave me the world map. A second 35 megabyte download was needed for Ohio. It seems a download will be necessary for any additional states I’ll want to add.
Pro: It’s stand-alone. No internet connection required on the move. Stable.
Con: Featureless – not even a quick zoom to a location. Needs lots of memory, presumably for map data. You best know where you are before using.

Best offline maps! Amazing level of detail, works really fast. It downloads maps to my Kindle Fire and allows to use them later without Internet access. Helped me a lot during my trip to Europe. Great work!
