    I was originally skeptical about buying this book because:

    (1) I know most of Ben’s stuff is more premium priced and I kind of wondered for a second if he had just “told you WHAT to do but not HOW TO do it” and tossed it into a book as a simple front end product.

    Also…

    (2) A lot of Kindle books are costly in terms of TIME because you buy this book and you’ve spent only $2.99 in cash but it takes time to go through everything.

    Which sucks if the material is crap.

    SO…I gave it a shot …and it was definitely worth it.

    I’m working on putting it to work on some stuff right now.

    Here’s what I’ll say about buying the book:

    If you are starting a print newsletter – paid or free – to sell or promote something you’re already selling
    I would *definitely* recommend Ben’s book.

    It’s a hard-hitting “how to” break down of how you can actually start-up your own newsletter (he even gives you the vendors to use for fulfillment).

    Honestly, even if you THINK you might start a print newsletter in the near future I’d recommend it.

    I also picked up a copy of his affiliate book … I think it’s called affiliate trump card…or something like that.

    If you’re thinking about buying this book, I’d suggest you pick up a copy of that too because almost everything he talks about in that book is directly applicable to newsletters with just a tiny (very tiny) bit of tweaking.

    And…I mean… it’s what.. three bucks? easily worth it.

    Let’s see…what else…

    Oh yeah, this book wasn’t just some “non-sense re-hash”. Or PLR crap.

    All the material in here was ultra-specific (and actionable) “how to info” for newsletter publishing (and selling).

    Really solid. Easy to put into action.

    Yeah…that’s pretty much it.

    Buy it.

    It’ll help.

    I don’t follow the exact suggestions that Ben makes, but there was plenty in this book to get me off my butt and get me started. I read through it 2 times, then started. I constantly review each month as I’m putting that month’s newsletter together.

    I’m charging for my newsletter content and I’ve made $4,088 in revenue in just the 2 months I’ve been doing it. Not a bad ROI, huh?

    There is not a lot of “fluff” here, but if you want “more” content, I’d suggest being on Ben’s daily email list at BenSettle.com.

    If you are someone that is not creative or don’t have an imagination, you might not like this product. Ben is pretty straight forward with what to do and how to do it. There are not many alternatives he gives. So, if you are thinking “that won’t work for me” or “my audience won’t buy that” you’ll probably think it’s a waste of money.

    But if you can use the straight forward outline, add some creativity and imagination, be solution focused and not whine about what’s not in this book, maybe you’ll make $4,088 of revenue too.

    I’ll also add… I spend about 8-10 hours creating/editing the content. For example, my April newsletter had 4,322 words. My marketing consists of email marketing and facebook page posts.

    I feel pretty confident that I can get my Monthly newsletter to generate $50,000 to $75,000 a year. Not bad for 8-10 hours of work a month.

    Here Mr. Ben points out the wisdom of a printed newsletter. I know, you’re saying…Huh?

    The point is that hardly anyone does this anymore and it can be a very lucrative pastime if you don’t mind doing the work and making the deadlines.

    Proof of profitability for this? do a little research on Agora Financial and their newsletters and see how they’re doing financially.

    I use this as a textbook for Masters students learning to construct workflows for delivery of multiple media projects. This book gets them thinking about the cost of delivering an entity’s message in terms of resources, effectiveness for various audiences and the learning curve involved for those participating. The topics covered apply to ANY business model, not just non-profits. Efficient use of limited resources is appropriate for everyone. Nicely done.

    I have been involved with non-profit organizations for many years. I wish that this book had been available to me years ago. I found it to be useful with practical information that simply guides the user through the process. Any non-profit that needs to communicate with its members, supporters, and the community at large should find this book very helpfulEvery Nonprofit’s Guide to Publishing: Creating Newsletters, Magazines & Websites People Will Read (book with CD-Rom) and worthwhile. As a sidenote, I am not related to Cheryl Woodard, and in fact have never met her.
