I’ve had this little light for more than two years now and it’s still going strong. When at home it sits on my night stand and gets almost nightly use as a stubbed toe preventative. When out it’s usually clipped to my pack.

I never expected it to last like it has nor to be as useful as it has proven. Neither did I expect it to last so long considering the constant use it has seen. Absolutely worth every penny.

To be fair I haven’t exhaustively tested this thing. I have no idea how long the light lasts after a given amount of cranking or if there’s another better light out there. I couldn’t guess whether some other light puts up with being used in, and dropped in, rain, snow, and mud like this one has. It was cheap and I’ll keep using it like it was a single use toy. If the past is any indication though I’ll be using it like this for quite a while.

    Excellent Flashlight, September 11, 2010

As a midnight hiker enthusiast, I find this flashlight in my pocket or the belt loop every single time I spend time in creepy dark environments. Few things that I noticed right away that were the selling point for me:
    1. Very inexpensive – ten bucks at your local evil-corporation-mart.
    2. No need to replace batteries.
    3. Brand name – never had a problem with Energizer products.

And then a few more things that I later absolutely came to love:
    4. Comfortable, compact, and convenient design – I never thought that carrying, charging, and holding a flashlight can be so comfortable. At first I thought it looked ugly, but after using it repeatedly, I realized why engineers designed it this way.
    5. As night light – I crank it for 10 seconds and point at the ceiling. Interesting thing – the LEDs are still faintly lit in the morning.

Cons: Hard to think of any for a device with such price tag.

Energizer Weatheready 3-LED Carabineer Rechargeable Crank Light, Red and the Dynamo Illuminator Wind-up LED Flashlight

I purchased both the Energizer Weatherready and the Dynamo Illuminator crank recharging flashlights. Emergency lighting is important to me . I bought both so I could compare them. Both are good value for the money. However, while costing about a dollar more, the Energizer is a superior product. Both have 3 LED Bulbs. But, the Energizers bulbs are somewhat brighter and project slightly farther. Additionally, two minutes of cranking gives almost 35 minutes of light with the Energizer. While, two minutes winding on the Illuminator gave me just over 22 minutes of full light. The Energizer is lighter and has the added advantage of a Carabineer for ease of carry and storage. Also, the Energizer’s case appears more durable. The Illuminator can be switched to operate on a single led bulb to increase it’s effective time. But at a much lower light level. Both will do the Emergency Lighting Job well. But, spend a buck more and get the Energizer. I’m sure you’ll agree it’s worth the money! That is my recommendation!
