Surprised by this drill, February 11, 2011

I was very surprised by the performance of this lightweight drill. I historically buy high-end cordless drills, but when my Makita 12V batteries wouldn’t hold a charge, I decided to buy something less expensive. I’ve only owned this for 3 months and it hasn’t let me down. I almost always use a quick-change driver in the chuck so I’ve never seen the chuck slip (as another reviewer mentioned). I wish a carrying case and/or extra battery was included but I’ll survive without it. My only gripe is that the trigger is somewhat sensitive and it’s difficult to maintain a constant slow speed (i.e. driving small screws). Great torque at high speed, though. You could buy 2 or 3 of these for the price of a high-end drill. For the money, this is a great product.

I have owned any number of NiCad cordless drills and they all succumbed to NiCad uselessness within a year, Porter-Cable, Skil, Ryobi, I forget what all. I bought this drill primarily because Li-Ion is a much superior battery tech….and was amazed not only by the power longevity of the battery, but the muscular guts of the drill…..which requires a strong motor and a high battery power delivery (in addition to the other Li_ion advantages of long-life and no memory effect). I was driving 2-1/2″ bugle head screws with this and that’s a demanding task for cordless drills. After two hours of intermittent use installing duct work and using drillits (in addition to sinking 4 of those long screws), it was still going strong.
I’d want something more substantial for commercial trade use, but this is great for the home. Now if there was only a) some source for inexpensive new batteries (they cost damn near as much as the drill, whatever the make) or b) their reconditioning or c)a corded power converter for when all batteries are dead or no longer available at any reasonable price. This one is still too new to have any second source for batteries.

This drill is not for heavy drilling, the chuck does not grab well and bits tend to spin, but it is very convenient and light! For heavy work I still prefer a 120 volt drill.

This is the 3rd one of these i have owned. Problem is they arent built tought. When cleaning the steps if you put to much pressure on them the cases seperate and crack. After the 3rd one i found that before you even use it apply some apoxy on the seems so it wont come apart and makes it 10 times stronger. This last one has been in service for a very long time. Just a tip i thought i would pass on.

I just got a Dyson DC18 slim a few days ago and after reading too many reviews where people found the Dyson Mini Turbine attachment disappointing, with a few recommending the Eureka Power Paw as a better alternative, i got this item at Best Buy for $20 (the Dyson tool is $70). The Power Paw has worked very well, the vertical cleaning position is neat. It seems sturdy and simply made.

My only complaint is that it’s loud with a high pitched sound, but i find it tolerable, my ears adjust after the initial jolt when it first comes on. For the price, design and good functioning, and my satisfaction with it overall, i must give it 5 stars. I’m very happy, they only had one left on the rack when i got it at the store, i lucked out.

It does do an ok job but your vacuum better have A LOT of suction or the rollers won’t spin. I’m probably gonna buy a dyson but this will hold at least until I find one on sale.
