I’ve bought several “Very Special Christmas” albums over the years. They always seem to get my favorite artists to sing my favorite carols! Often the albums are okay to good, rarely are they phenomenal, but there’s always a handful of covers that are worthy of adding to your holiday playlist. As for this “25th Anniversary Edition” I can say that it is comparable to previous releases, maybe not quite as good, though certainly a worthy addition to your collection. And, of course, the money goes towards a great cause!

    Some Highlights:
    * Jewel – Angels We Have Heard on High
    * Michael Buble – It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas (his whole Christmas album is great, BTW)
    * Cheap Trick – I Want You for Christmas
    * Martina McBride – Please Come Home for Christmas

    Some Midlights
    * Grayson Sanders & Jono – Something in the Air
    * Jason Mraz – Winter Wonderland
    * One Republic – Christmas Without You

    Some Lowlights
    * Train – Joy to the World
    * Jordin Sparks – Do You Hear What I Hear

The remaining tracks aren’t really bad or good and not particularly worth mentioning.

Overall, some good renditions of old favorites mixed with some pretty dreadful butchery, mixed with a few decent tries. In many ways it’s just nice to get festive tracks from your favorite artists that would otherwise never happen were it not for this charity. I’ll probably put my favorite tracks on a Christmas playlist and let the others get ignored, but I don’t feel bad for buying it because I think the Special Olympics is extremely important.

I purchased this bleary-eyed on a lighting deal after being up all night Black Friday shopping. The next day, I wondered if I should really be spending money on myself during this season of giving. After listening this morning my resounding answer was, “Heck yes!”

I love Christmas, Christmas music, the season, I love it all. It had been a while since I bought myself a new CD. I listened on my commute this morning, and couldn’t wait for my commute home to listen to the rest. There are songs and artists on here that should appeal to a wide range of audiences, people who enjoy todays hits, classic rock, acoustical and country. Traditional covers, and new songs are featured. I skipped over one or two songs (as you would on any album) because they weren’t quite for me, but loved most of them!

Music is all about personal tastes, but some of my favorites included, “Joy to the World” by Train- who wittingly slip in some “Calling all Angels”, Cheap Trick revising their, “I want you to want me”, to a clever “I Want you for Christmas”, and Christina Aguilera bringing it home with, “Oh Holy Night” – slipping in the Lords Prayer and some jazzy gospel music.

To ease my guilt, I’m coming back and ordering another one, this time sending to my sister to enjoy.

P.S. As a bonus, there was a coupon included in the case for 2 free bowling games at participating centers (expires Jan 31, 2013). Great music, free bowling and supporting the excellent Special Olympics organization! Beat that!

MY family an I have purchased and enjoyed A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS CD’s for years now, and this one just plain sucks. We were trimming the tree and we shut it off it was so bad. Some of the tracks are better than others but.. Oh Holy Night by Christina Aguilera was a nauseating roller coaster. 0_0. If you don’t have any of the older soundtracks of “A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS”- GET THEM!! THEYRE GREAT!!.. This one however.. Maybe we can use it as a tree ornament u_u
