I got mine in the mail just an hour ago. It was very nicely packaged, and arrived in pristine condition. I’m amazed by the detail of the craftsmanship! It looks even better in person than it did in the pictures.

It looked surprisingly flat when I first got it, and I remember thinking that I’d probably need to adjust it a lot to get it to fit. Deciding to give it a chance anyway, I put it around my ear, and it actually wasn’t too far off. It was just the tiniest bit too curved to reach my earlobe, but my ears are a little bit larger than the intended size of 2 inches, so that was to be expected. I was afraid that I’d hurt the details with pliers, so I wound up just bending it with my hands, and that actually worked out really well- after one try over the span of maybe six seconds, it fit perfectly.

I’m wearing it right now, and it actually feels a lot lighter than I’d expected it would. It’s not uncomfortable or painful, like I’d expected it would first be; in a review for a different ear wrap, one person compared the weight of wearing one to having a pencil behind your ear, and that feels pretty accurate right now.

I agree with the other reviewer on here- these earrings ARE a bit costly. In fact, that’s what kept me from buying an Alchemy Gothic ear wrap for four years- I never had thirty to forty dollars that could just be thrown away on something as frivolous as an earring.

It turns out that the price is only that steep because every ear wrap is made by hand. Somewhere in the world, there are artisans being paid to sit down at workbenches and spend hours carving out and bending little pewter snakes and roses and whatever else into just the right shape for us. They’ve got to be making more than minimum wage, and if it takes a few hours to make an earring, then I can see how it can easily get really expensive to produce these. It’s not only the price of materials, but also the cost of the work labor required to produce it.

Regardless, these DO cost a bit, but in the end, it’s really worth it. :) I’m extremely happy with my purchase, and my only regret is that they don’t make these for the right ear. ;)

If my serpent breaks or the metal discolors, or any other unforeseen problems arise, I’ll be sure to come back here and edit it into my review. Till then, I’d say that if you’re on the fence about buying a serpent, I would definitely recommend that you get it. It looks beautiful, feels very comfortable and elegant, and will really set you apart from the crowd.

Give into temptation and just take the snake… you won’t regret it. :)

Edit: 1/25/2012: My earring is still in pristine condition, but I just wanted to add that while this is technically made for the left ear, if you straighten out the curve of the snake a bit (with either pliers or brute strength) it WILL go comfortably onto your right ear. It just takes a lot more adjustment than on the left ear. ^^ So it can technically go onto either ear.

Edit: 10/25/2012: Today I stumbled upon a link to my still-beloved Snakey, and was very startled by the $35+ price drop. I’m admittedly a bit frustrated that, after four years of a steadfast $40 price tag, once I *finally* pull together enough to buy one, the price plummets less than a year later. Then again, now I can finally afford a second Snakey. Once more, they *can* go on both ears, so you can have two on at once (albeit the two won’t be symmetrical). Additionally, if you’re questioning how my first Snakey has been holding up, he’s still wonderful, and hasn’t shown any signs of wear at all. If you’ve got any doubts about buying the Snakey, please don’t. I paid $40 and still felt that I’d gotten more than my money’s worth; this snake is expertly crafted, and still the most beautiful earring that I own. For $4 for the same product, it would be a downright sin not to get one!

Cheap earrings may look cute and pretty at first, but as we all have experienced, that fades a little too fast.

I saw this and thought the same thing, thinking it was going to be less than what I expected but I was so wrong. It’s well made and I LOVED the fact that I could bend it around my ear. Currently the head is bending into my ear as if it’s talking to me.

Great price for a great and unique earring.

Awesome earpiece! Only need to have your ear pierced for it and looks sick in your ear. Definitely worth the money. Came within a week.
