Product works great!, September 8, 2010
    By

I have never coated a floor before. I put this Garage floor paint on a basement floor yesterday and it worked great! You just have to follow instructions. Read the instructions. Did you get that? Read the instructions. Look at the instructions as to the temperature the floor is and work according to that too. Remember to mix the two cans and wait for the required amount of time before putting on the paint! Read the instructions! Do 4 x 4 foot areas then sprinkle on the sprinkles (or whatever you call them) if you want to. I did and it looks great!

Also the instructions don’t tell you how long to keep the etcher on the floor. I called the company and they said to keep it on till it quits fizzing.

RESPONSE FROM RUSTOLEUM THE COMPANY, June 27, 2011
    By

*****UPDATE***** I have FINALLY found out that you CANNOT use epoxy over a PAINTED floor. Do NOT use epoxy over a painted cement floor. It will not stick!!!* **** ALSO – TRY THIS TEST BEFORE USING ANY PAINT OR EPOXY – TAPE DOWN A 5X5″ OR SO, PIECE OF PLASTIC OR SARAN WRAP. TAPE ALL EDGES AND LET SIT FOR A WEEK. IF ANY CONDENSATION SHOWS UP UNDER THE PLASTIC, DO NOT PAINT OR USE EPOXY ON CEMENT.

ALSO, IF YOU ARE GOING TO PAINT A CEMENT FLOOR, USE SPECIALIZED PAINT FROM SHERWIN WILLIAMS, A SPECIALIZED PAINT FOR CEMENT FLOORS. YOU CANNOT JUST USE ANY PAINT, UNLESS OF COURSE YOU DON’T MIND IF IT LASTS… :) ASK SHERWIN WILLIAMS FIRST BEFORE BUYING :) THEY ALWAYS HAVE 40% OFF SALES SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR, SIGN UP FOR THEIR UPDATES VIA EMAIL. THOSE SALES WILL SAVE YOU A TON OF MONEY! BRINGS GALLON PRICES DOWN TO $20-$40, APPROX. LOWE’S AND HOME DEPOT PAINT…NOT SO GREAT. TRUST ME.

After reading reviews, I decided to contact the company myself. I told them about the bubbling and lifting I read about on Amazon and I asked them about the etching that seems to be in question here. This is their response. Be sure to let the floor DRY BEFORE PUTTING ON THE EPOXY! The etching is for cleaning the floor. This is apparently a several day, several part process! Hope this helps anyone considering the purchase. Below is my email to them and their response!

    FROM ME – CONSUMER
I’ve read some mixed reviews about this product on Amazon, all saying your instructions leave out how long to leave the etcher on. Also, a man in GA, said his bubbled and came off after 4 months. We live in Missouri, what should we know about this product before buying it? You need to be specific about high humidity areas. One size does not fit all! Also, add into your instructions how long to leave the etcher on. Please let me know how to handle a humid climate with this product as well.

    FROM RUSTOLEUM:
Thank you for your recent e-mail. The etch that is provided in the kit should be applied to the wet floor and then scrubbed vigorously with a stiff bristle brush to clean the surface. There is no set time that the etch needs to sit on the floor. We recommend etching the floor in a 10 foot by 10 foot section. This will allow the etch to remain on the floor for a period of time that will allow the concrete to be cleaned and etched thoroughly.

There have been applications where the product has lost adhesion and did bubble or peel. There are many factors and variables in each application that may cause this to happen. Rustoleum does have a satisfaction guarantee and a product support team that will help you with any issues that may arise during and after application.

Humidity will affect the coating during the application and subsequent drying/curing (48 hours) of the epoxy coating. As long as the product is applied and allowed to cure for at least 48 hours with the relative humidity under 85 percent, there will be no issues once to coating is dry. If you have moisture that comes up through the floor then I would not recommend using any coating as it will peel from the surface. These coatings will stop moisture coming from above down onto the surface. I would recommend using the anti-skid additive if you do have concerns about moisture sitting on the coating as this surface will become slippery when wet.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions at 1-800-811-4919.
    Thank you.

Seals the floor so it cleans up easily, November 16, 2010
    By
    Stowaway (Jacksonville, FL) –

I bought this product about 4 years ago for my new home. It was the first thing I did before moving in.
I like to change my own oil and wanted something to protect the floor in case of a spill. Believe me I have spilled oil several times on this and it cleaned up extremely easily. I highly recommend it.

Like a previous reviewer stated, you MUST follow the directions. A friend used a similar product and thought he could stop half way and come back later. This is an epoxy, so by the time he came back the bucket of paint was almost solid. I plan to buy this product again soon to cover another garage floor.

    Pros: Good seal
    Protects floor from spills
    You can hose it down

Cons: For several months the flakes will chip off and you’ll have to sweep or vacuum them up
You MUST FOLLOW DIRECTIONS and apply it in a timely manner.
Can occasionally be slippery. There is a mix-in to help with this, but I didn’t use it.
