Records very clean but pics up everything around it. The db cut offs are really hard to access and is a dumb design. The shock mount really doesn’t do anything. The mic sits lopsided and there’s no way to adjust it. The wire also pics up the slightest touch. Good mic for the money but pics up too much noise around it.

I had originally bought the Zoom H1 recorder to replace the built-in mic of my dslr. Then I realized that in order to eliminate ambience sound/noise I needed to get a shotgun mic. The combination of both the Rode videomic and the Zoom H1 recorder is the perfect combo for all my audio recording needs. You can also connect the video mic directly to your dslr camera but you will not be able to monitor the audio levels, unless of course your camera has a designated headphone output. Via the Zoom H1, you can monitor the audio levels from the videomic. I also purchased the Sescom LN2MIC-ZOOMH4N 3.5mm Line to Mic cable to be able to route the ouput audio from the Zoom H1 to the camera. I noticed that by using this cable it reduces hiss noise. If you’re looking into buying the Rode videomic, definitely go for the Rycote Lyre Mount. It is sturdy. No need to replace rubber bands unlike the previous Rode model. I have the videomic attached to a ALZO Multi-Mount and it does reduce noise and I can’t barely hear the camera lens. Hope this feedback can help some of you out there. Of course there are other better shotgun mics out there, but under $200 the Rode videomic with the Rycote Mount is a great choice if your budget is tight.

This is the best Microphone money can buy. I also bought a Dead Cat wind sound deflector to help with my recordings. U will like this shotgun microphone. I made a sound recording and please check it out how it sounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhALA-l_apQ
