Respect Game Or Expect Flames

Respect Game Or Expect Flames

Nearly 20 years after his classic debut album Fear Itself, Casual is a certified Bay Area hip-hop legend. Now, the Hieroglyphics emcee is joining forces with J Rawls (producer for Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Count Bass D J-Live, Stalley, and more) for a brand new album, Respect Game Or Expect Flames, coming August 28th on Nature Sounds. Both Rawls and Casual agree that the album came about organically. “He had a lot of beats that moved my pen,” explains Casual. The result is an album that stands out

Casual’s lyrics alone makes this a must have. Dude has been putting out nothing but heat in his last three releases.

First off I’m a fan of Hiero & enjoy their live shows as well. The last album I bought from Casual was “Smash Rockwell” & it was less than mediocre so I didn’t expect much from this album. I didnt get much either. Starts off with Reign which is Lame & has a terrible hook. Moves onto the title track which is garbage as well besides Del coming through with a decent verse. I really don’t even want to go into the rest of the album because it’s all basically weak. Hier-o-dot & hearing Kurious murder the track Emergency were the only highlights of this album. Track #11 Find a New is decent. Other than that personally I think J Rawls production on here is just as lazy as Casual’s rhyming. It’s bad when I would rather listen to the radio nowadays than this album. I think I’m being very generous by giving this album 2 stars. I’m definitely done with any solo albums from Casual or Tajai.

I loved the way Casual and j rawls just did their own thing with the production and lyrics. It’s like they just said “Hey f*** what your doing over there, were chillin and doing this.” A lot of the album has a jazzy theme to it for sure. Just chill and layed back. “Surely, I’m right” is my favorite track on the album for sure. Dude does his thing.
