Erase EVERYTHING and the kitchen sink too!!!!, July 13, 2011

It started innocently enough…I bought a pack of these to clean some black shoe marks off my kitchen floor. The marks didn’t come off with scrubbing and even bleach but a few swipes with one of these sponges and the marks were GONE! So I tried it on the nasty oil spatter stains (hard to remove even with degreaser) on my cabinets= GONE! Then I went on to the fridge, the light switch plates…every stain I used it on was magically GONE! It worked on the kitchen sink too. There were some scuff marks in the sink from metal pans, I thought they were there to stay but even those are gone now!

It even works on rug stains and while this does make it break apart faster it does work. I also tried them on my car wheels…I have chrome rims and they get black with brake dust. This works much better than the pricy cleaners that I used to buy at the auto parts store! In fact, I even told the guys at the car wash about this and they started using them too. If you have shiny chrome rims this will get them as clean as they were the day you bought your car, NO JOKE! The sponges are safe for most surfaces. They even work on dishes that have caked on food or water marks. I have also had good luck removing stains from clothing. They get out stains that other products don’t.

Now, I find it impossible to clean without these. Many stains that would require scrubbing come off in a few swipes. The best thing is, it doesn’t have any smelly chemicals! I spilled red jello on my white countertop. I didn’t see one spot and it stayed there for a week…and it STILL came off with no effort. There are very few stains that it won’t remove and it does this with no additional cleaning products. It is also non abrasive. The only thing is that the sponge dissolves as you use it. With heavy use you may go through a lot of them BUT in the long run you will save time and use less cleaning supples…But be warned, Magic Erasers are addicting…Once you clean one thing, you will want to clean EVERYTHING!

I would recommend these for small-to-medium cleaning jobs that have very tough stains. I’ve cleaned wall stains and school desks (!) and they cut through the stains like magic. Less pressure works better than more pressure, and if you have a large cleaning job, you will need several of these, as they will disintegrate as you use them. Read all of the reviews on Amazon, and you’ll get a good sense of the kinds of things that can be cleaned. I love them.

Here is the info from the package.
Great for: textured shower floors and tubs
baked-on grease, microwaves, and floor tile grout
    light switches and ceramic tile
plastic patio furniture and children’s play sets
alloy car wheels, vinyl window sill/frames and much more

    WARNING:
Not recommended for the following – high gloss, polished, dark, brushed, satin, faux, bare/polished wood, or stainless steel. If using for dishwashing, rinse glasses thoroughly. Do not use with chlorine bleach, on vehicle body, or post-factory tinted glass. Do not use on skin or other parts of the body.

Clean your IRON!!!, February 28, 2011
    By

This review is from: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Cleaning Pads, 8-Count Box (Health and Beauty)

In additon to all the great things this little cleaning pad can do, it will do an amazingly good job of cleaning your iron. Just get the Magic Eraser wet and wring out most of the water. Put a few paper towels or regular towel on a table and put the Magic Eraser on top. Now just iron over the Magic Eraser with your iron set to it’s hottest setting. That’s it. Your iron should be clean.

So get out that gunky iron that you thought was ruined and try this. It WILL work!

My cleaning power has been supercharged, July 5, 2011

The author of this book owns a cleaning company, and the advice she gives shows her expertise. After reading it, I ran out and bought the items she recommends and gave them a try. Amazing results. All these years, I’ve been using a multitude of cleaning products and endless elbow grease when all I needed were the right tools and method for the job. One thing that I particularly like is how the author uses the same method and products in all rooms of the house. No more specialized cleaners just for the bathroom or kitchen.

The advantages of the book far outweigh the drawbacks, but here are a couple of minor criticisms:
    1) The book is poorly edited, so it is rife with spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. It almost seems self-published. However, these problems did not inhibit my understanding or particularly bother me — and I’m a high school English teacher! Cleaning suggestions were what I was after, and the author delivered.
    2) The use of acronyms in this book is a little overdone. I understand abbreviating the product Krud Kutter to “KK” because it is mentioned so often, but when the author even abbreviated the name of one of her own chapters, shortening “The Nitty Gritty” to “NG,” I felt like throwing in the towel… specifically, a white terrycloth rag which the author calls a “WTR.” Sigh.

Minor criticisms aside, I would recommend this book to friends and family. Overall, its best features are
    1) The author’s sense of humor. The pages are peppered with jokes and personality.
    2) The system she describes really works!

My house cleaning has had a professional makeover, and I will continue using the book as a reference.

A Quirky But Useful Little Book, December 3, 2011

I just got this book this afternoon, and read through it in an hour or two. Normally it would tick me off if I paid $10 for something and read it that fast … but in this case, not so much, because it was information I was looking for, and the author packed that information in – I definitely got what I wanted. And now I can move on to making use of it, without wasting a week reading through a lot of redundancy and personal stories I don’t care about.

Many reviewers commented on the grammar and typographical errors. They were right. Rather than sounding like “a book,” I’d say that it was kind of like reading a letter or email from a friend – chatty and informal. So, while it’s odd to find that in a book, it didn’t really detract from getting what I wanted out of it. And this author IS funny. The book’s undoubtedly entertaining, on top of being useful.

Not to mince words, I suck at cleaning. But I hate having such a dirty house. I was fed up and wanted to do something but, knowing I have little ‘willpower’ in this area, was looking for one of those ‘streamlined cleaning techniques’ that would help me get through it as painlessly as possible. I believe this book solved that problem. Is a lot of it common sense? Possibly. But regardless of how common or sensible it is, I wasn’t doing it. Sometimes simply being reminded of the simplicity of methodical cleaning methods is enough to really make the difference. Now, rather than looking at a room and just feeling overwhelmed, I feel like I can do this, it is possible, and I have a clear “path” to follow to get it done. I feel it is much more likely now that I will get and stay on top of my housecleaning.

I also loved the recommendations on products and tools – this was a huge burden to me, as I have amassed a closet full of cleaning products hoping something would make it easier (they haven’t), and the sheer volume of what to choose was overwhelming me every time I thought about cleaning. Now I can streamline down to a few things and know I have what I need. Simple.

So though I haven’t put the information into practice yet (headed out shortly to pick up the minimal supplies to start my war on dirt), I can tell the information I got from this book will make a big difference in how I think about cleaning my house, and I believe make it much more doable for me.

If you want a better cleaning routine with clear instructions without a lot of fluff, useful supplies to get, and a couple good doses of humor and motivation, I think you’ll like this book.
