The pot itself if made of ok grade metal, but the overall engineered design sucks. Its put together with 3 pieces of metal and the weld job is very poorly done. They didn’t even grind down the welds to make them smooth. On the ground it doesn’t look so bad but up close it looks like 3 pieces of metal shaped in a bowl and tacked together then coated with copper

Rusts out within a year, August 10, 2012

Living in Southern California, during a drought year, I thought these Copper and clear coated Liberty Garden hose pots would last longer than one-year. Wrong! I placed each hose pot on top of rubber stepping stones that had an open pattern to allow any surface water to immediately drain away from the hose pot. Every three months I would sand off any rust spots and spray with Rustoleum “Hammered Copper” spray, which actually matches quite perfectly the finish and color of the hose pot. All this effort was to no avail. The pots rust out along the top side rim, which is amazing since there seems to be no conceivable way for water to get to that part of the hose pot. In less than one-year, all are trash.

Bottom line, even though solid copper hose pots cost five or more times as much, in five years you’ll still have a nice hose pot. Lesson learned.

As another reviewer (accurately) noted, this is not a well-made piece. It is significantly less expensive than many similar products and, looking at it, you can easily see why. Clearly cheaply made, it came dented, dinged and most definitely not made well. Metal tacked together with shoddy looking welds. That being said, from far away (as it is usually seen) it looks OK. Not sure how it will hold up though, being put together so poorly.

As for capacity, our heavy-duty 50 foot hose takes up basically the whole thing, even taking the time to form a fairly tight spiral, so I’d be shocked if it actually held a 100 ft. hose, as advertised. It is also very lightweight, which means you have to unfurl and remove the entire hose to use, or else the whole thing just tips over and gets even more beat up. (This doesn’t happen when using very short lengths, but once half the hose is out, the bowl does tip over.) The bonus is that taking the hose in and out is fairly trival, and far faster than most winder hose holders.

So, for a 1/3 the cost of similar items I’ve seen, you’re likely getting a third the quality too. Guess you just have to decide for yourself if that’s worth it. For us, I’m not entirely unhappy. It does look fine from far away–far better than a plastic hose reel–and holds our hose just fine and more aesthetically than having it coiled on the ground, which is all I expected it to do.

That being said, we also got the similiarly priced Liberty Garden Products 1901 Rustic Garden Hose Pot – Rustic and found it to be far better constructed (heavier material, not obvious welds and arrived un-dented) and much larger (taller). If I had to pick one >$50 hose pot, that would be it, despite the visual appeal of this cooper item.
