My first stylus, the AmazonBasics Stylus for Touchscreen Devices, worked just fine for about nine months. Unfortunately, it began sticking a bit so I decided it was time to purchase another. I went with the Fosmon Trio. I gave one to my son and kept the other two. In about a couple of weeks, the tip became detached. I tried replacing the tip several times but it would not stay in place for long. So I began using the backup. Within a week, I began to experiencing the same problem – the tip falls away from the body. Very frustrating! I am back to using the AmazonBasics Stylus.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What’s this?)

The only other stylus I had used before this pack is a Boxwave (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ETWCSK/ref=wms_ohs_product) that a friend had recommended when I bought my Kindle Fire last fall. I have used that stylus–a LOT–for almost a year with no problems at all.

In contrast, the first of this pack that I used (the red one) had its tip disengage after about 2 weeks of use. I was able to reseat the tip but still…pretty disappointing. I’m on my 2nd of the 3 now (the silver) for about a week and all is going fine so far.

Stylistically and ergonomically, there are differences between the Fosman and the Boxwave that stood out to me:

    1. The Fosmon stylus feels fatter/thicker in my hand than the Boxwave and therefore was pretty awkward for me to get used to for the first few weeks.

    2. Both the Boxwave and the Fosman have a slim black thread at the top which connects to a piece that can insert into the Kindle Fire’s headphone jack to ensure that you don’t lose your stylus while you are transporting your Fire in your purse, backpack, etc.

The Fosman’s thread is attached to the stylus via a loop of thread through a hole in the cap. Even after a month of use and many attempts to tighten it, this loop continues to stand open due to the stiffness of the thread and will not close tightly. Not only is this really annoying while I’m using the stylus, but it concerns me, since the loop will not close securely, it will come all the way undone and the piece that inserts into the Fire will be lost. The only upside to the loop being loose is that if you did not want the thread and the piece that attaches to the Fire, you could take it off easily.

In contrast, the Boxwave’s thread is attached to the stylus by a clip, a heavier version of a clasp you might find on a necklace. If you don’t like the thread and don’t use its attachment to the Fire, you can take the clip all the way off (or replace it with a clip of your liking). There is very little chance of the clip coming open on its own and the stylus’ attachment to the Fire being lost.

    3. The size and shape of the little stem that fits into the Fire’s headphone jack to connect the stylus to the Fire during transit or storage vary between the two brands. The Boxwave’s stem is shorter in length but has a bulb shape. The Fosman’s stem is longer and straighter, though it does have ridges. The Boxwave’s stem feels much more secure going into the port…you can feel that it is seated. YOu don’t feel this with the Fosmon. However, when I put each stylus’ stem into the Fire’s port and tugged on them, the Boxwave stem gave only a bit more resistance to being pulled out than did the Fosmon.

Both brands of stylus have a clip, for those who prefer to carry the stylus in a pocket or clip it into a backpack or purse.

In terms of price, you get 3 Fosmon for about the same price as 1 Boxwave. But, for my money, the Boxwave is a better VALUE if you only need 1 stylus, because I believe it to be of better quality and construction than the Fosmon.

I have included a picture in the customer images at the top left of the product page to show the difference in the stem, thread and loop issues.

UPDATE 1/21/13: The problem with the loop on the “thread” looped through the stylus’ top end has ceased to be a problem, at least for 2 of the 3 in this pack. I finally realized that if I push the loop to the SIDE of the stylus tip, the loop will say better closed than when I was trying to get the loop to close over the TOP of the stylus tip. Therefore, my problem with potentially losing the piece of the stylus that attaches to the Kindle Fire is much less of an issue now than when I first reviewed this product. Additionally, I have had no further problems with tips disengaging and such. I did go back to using my Boxwave as my PRIMARY stylus, in part because it is lighter and thinner and feels better in my hand, but I do still use one or more of the Fosmons. Since I got a new smartphone last month, I sometimes use a Fosmon with that and keep the Boxwave with the Kindle Fire. As a result, I would be more apt to recommend the Fosmon now than I was when I originally reviewed it…and would give it 3.5 stars vs. 3 if Amazon allowed 1/2 star ratings.

I am so disappointed in this product. The tips fall out and easily get lost. At this point, out of the six styluses I purchased, I have lost the tips on three of them. I will not purchase this item again and I reccomend that everyone should think twice before spending their hard earned money for this rather costly product.
