I have tried many different Emergency Food kits over the years, this one is worth having. The only down side to this product is the cook time. If your looking for a “just add water” product, this is not it. Flavor is good and they say it has a 25 year self life. Cant go wrong with this item.

Not a bad kit, but nothing too hardy, just soups/ramen noodles, December 20, 2012

I liked the idea of a different kind of emergency food kit other than the usual Mountain House, but this one fell somewhat short. It has 4 single servings with 4 different varieties, all 4 of which are soup based and vegetarian. I haven’t tried to cook any yet but they need 4-5 cups of boiling water in a sauce pan to cook up each, simmering for 8-10 minutes so it’s kind of extreme if you are rationing water and fuel. I’d say it’s a solid choice for emergencies if water and fuel is plentiful, otherwise stick with Mountain House. Also this is good for those cold winters nights for a substitute soup and you get 16 servings for $20 which isn’t bad for soup prices.

I would not describe this as a 72 hour emergency survival kit. The total calories in the kit is 2252 which works out to 750 calories per day. Realistically You’ll need to supplement this kit with additional food. And yes I know the US Army Survival Handbook list 600 – 1000 as a requirement for survival. I also find the amount of water required to prepare these meals on the high side. However cost per calorie is less than most.
