A Bad Girl in Harlem

A Bad Girl in Harlem

The Denmark trio, who uprooted their lives and relocated to Williamsburg, returns with their new album, A Bad Girl In Harlem. The process of writing A Bad Girl In Harlem proved long and arduous, but ultimately fruitful. The band came out of it with over 60 demos, many inspired by, lead singer, David’s new single life. It’s obvious that New Politics is not angry anymore. There’s a solid bunch of tracks here, very poppy and catchy and technically very good. But when you put this release side by side with their debut, there is a marked difference. I fell in love with New Politics not just because of their unique sound but because they were edgy, angry and politically driven. They just don’t seem to be writing songs about the state of the world anymore, and that saddens me. We need more bands willing to speak the truth.

As much as I like this album, there is no “Dignity”, no “Yeah Yeah Yeah”, and DEFINITELY no “New Generation” present on this album, in any form, and that’s tragic in my opinion.

And finally the new New Politics album is released. After much anticipation from their debut album, this new collection does not reflect a sophomore slump but it does not show a radical broadening either. Still an enjoyable album!

I heard the song Harlem on the radio and just had to have it. The rest of the album is catchy and addictive as well!
