Great for cuts and scratches–heals faster, April 15, 2008

I have been using these for a while. I cut them to fit, rather than use a whole one at once. They work especially well on cuts and scratches in areas like your hands where your skin movement keeps pulling apart the edges of the wound and keeps it from healing.

Because there is no pad like with a regular bandage, the Tegaderm really holds the edges of the wound closed, because the whole area is “glued” to the material. Plus, with no pad, there is nothing to absorb water when you wash or shower, so you don’t end up with a soggy pad on your wound.

I find that cuts and scratches especially heal faster. And the clear, thin material of the Tegaderm blends in with my skin and does not show up so much. I do lots of gardening, and have lots of rose bushes, plus a kitty who gets a bit rough when she plays, so I frequently have small cuts and scratches on my hands. Tegaderm is a “must” in my first aid kit.

Note: They come in different sizes, so you can get bigger ones. Some also come with pads, so be sure to get the ones with no pad unless you want something more like a regular “band-aid”. If you get the type that comes with a frame, it is easier to apply. You can peel the frame off after you have stuck the dressing to your skin.

This is the dressing you need, April 11, 2012

This review is for all of the Tegaderm sized products.

I work in surgery and these Tegaderm products are the best wound coverers there are. For a primer on wound care: if you have a wound whether or not it is closed, first you must clean it with soapy water (suggest using Betadine soap) and a clean or sterile gauze pad. Dry the wound until the skin is not moist. Put some triple antibiotic ointment on the cut, a small piece of gauze and then cover it with Tegaderm making sure that the gauze is covered by the patch. If the cut is on your finger then just cover it with a Tegaderm patch. If you remove the hair around the injury and apply the Tegaderm patch, the patch will stay on for several days. After about three or four days, remove the patch and clean the injury again. If it still looks angry, then place another patch and triple antibiotic on it. If not, let it dry out.

Instead of using bandaids on small cuts or abrasions, use the small Tegaderm instead. It will not stick to a cut like a Bandaid does and it will form around the finger and not fall off. The cost per unit is more expensive but you’ll find that you will not have to replace it as often even when you take a shower.

    This is the cat’s meow.

This product fits nicely over my continuous glucose sensor protecting it for water while I shower, it doesn’t irritate my skin or leave a sticky residue when removed.
