I am a long time user of these Coin Catalogs. I own the editions for the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. During the 20th century I purchased a new edition every three or four years, to update my collection. I was looking forward to a complete listing of the 20th century. I use these Catalogs for the types of coins, not for the values.
Having been burned on the 40th Edition, I approached this version with care. I prefaced my purchase with a critical email to George Cuhaj, advising that if the omissions of the 40th Edition were not corrected, their Catalog would no longer be one of “The World’s Best-Selling Coin Books”.
I have received my copy of the 41st Edition. It is complete as to the countries included; the index matches the contents; and much more detailed information has been included. As to the completeness of the coins for each country, I can only attest to the completeness of the countries in my collection, as I have transferred all of my annotations to the 41st Edition. I have not checked the thoroughness for countries for which I do not have coins.
A new feature is multiple listings,..i.e. Mexico, Estado de, as well as, Estado de Mexico. However, this device does not extend to China. The index does not include a listing for China, Japanese Puppet States. In the index, Japanese Puppet States are listed only under Japan, although in the book, they are included in the section under China. Let’s be consistent, folks.
Lastly, we appear to have a new country…namely Begian (sic) Congo. Yes, I can recommend the 41st Edition, which I purchased from Amazon.

Amazing canonical works, but they don’t change much from year to year. Also much cheaper second hand., June 8, 2013

OK, so these books are basically canonical lists of all the coins on the planet. In tribute, I will say a few words in canonical list format.

    1. Do not, under any circumstances, pay list price for these things. It has been my experience that your local library book sale is probably giving these away for a dollar. Since they’re reference guides, libraries turn these over every single year. Don’t pay $50 when you can get them for $1 at the annual booksale. They’ll be a year out of date but who cares.

    2. Remember, the prices listed here are RETAIL prices. If you take your collection to the coin shop to sell it you’ll get … well, not the prices listed.

    3. These don’t change all that much from year to year and when they do it’s generally to reflect a change in the price of gold or silver.

I usually purchase this volume, 1901-2000, every 5 years. When the 40th edition arrived from Amazon, I sat down to revise the values of my foreign coin collection which needed updating. Surprise, Surprise….the 40th edition did not include chapters and values for 1) Republic of China, Taiwan; 2) Panama; 3) Spain. Now earlier editions of the catalog revealed that Spain was in sore need of an update if not a full-blown revisions from start to finish, as I had many modern issues that were not listed in the catalog, but to drop the chapter entirely? What gives? Before I would shell out the money for the 41st ed. I would take a look at a hard copy of the catalog first and see if the publisher has put back these three countries (and if they did, hopefully in a revised form) and if they have left any other countries out. I add that there was no break in the pagination, so it wasn’t a printing error that kept these three countries out of the book. Thanks.
